Nestled in the mountains of northwest Nicaragua, Rio Coco began in 1992 with only 5 farmers and has grown into a co-op of 200 with full wet and dry coffee processing operations. This community has dreams for its members. Revenue from the sale of coffee is used to send academically gifted students such as Herberto Rivas on to higher education. Herberto returned to become Rio Coco’s agriculture engineer. Funds are also used to provide micro-loans for building new enterpirses and helping to move families out of sub-standard housing.
